[book review] How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind by Dana K. White

Let’s get straight to the point. I loved this book. How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind by Dana K. White is one woman’s experiment in taking back control of her messy house. She passes the successful strategies and habits on to others who treat (or ignore) housework as she did. I listened to the audiobook but I’m tempted to get the print version because I enjoyed it so much. It’s read by the author and she did an amazing job of being engaging. It feels like listening to an understanding friend talk about how they managed to get some semblance of control over their home. Her advice is realistic. She acknowledges that you might need to tweak things to work for you but doesn’t compromise on the main goal of getting your house under control. Continue Reading

Book Review: The Unity Game by Leonora Meriel | sharisaurus.com

[book review] The Unity Game by Leonora Meriel

A few weeks ago, I responded to a book tour request and volunteered to read and review the book The Unity Game by Leonora Meriel. I’m having difficulty finishing it, so instead of forcing myself to finish a book I don’t enjoy, I’m going to blog about why I find it a slow read. The book follows several different characters, and their stories initially seem interesting but then fail to go anywhere quickly. I decided that while this could be an enjoyable read for some people, it just wasn’t for me. I’ve de-harsh-ified my review, but I still want to express my frustration with both the pace and the writing style.

[product review] Fintie tablet case with keyboard

In an effort to expand when and where I write, I bought a new case for my Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 with S Pen. It’s a Fintie Slim Fit Folio with Detachable Magnetic Bluetooth Keyboard. It includes a bluetooth keyboard and kickstand to place your tablet at a useful angle. I’m very pleased with my purchase and wanted to share my pictures and experience. Have you considered getting one? Wondering if you can just buy a keyboard for your current case? Read on to see if I answer any of your questions! Continue Reading

[book review] Elysium Fire by Alastair Reynolds

[Spoiler-ish]

This morning I finished listening to the audiobook of Elysium Fire by Alastair Reynolds. It’s a Science Fiction story set in Reynolds’ Revelation Space universe. It was read by the wonderful John Lee, a Welsh voice actor whose voice and accent I find incredibly soothing. I think I first listened to a Peter F. Hamilton story because it was read by Lee, and Hamilton’s Commonwealth universe is now one of my favorites. I enjoyed Lee’s reading of Elysium Fire, as well, and thought he handled the variety of voices in a way that was distinctive without being grating or jarring. Continue Reading

[product review] i demoed CBD cream

Last weekend I had the opportunity to demo a CBD (cannabidiol) cream. I’ve read that others with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome have used CBD to deal with their daily pain, so I was interested to find out if the cream could actually relieve any of my joint pain. I say “demoed” instead of “tried” because it was only one application. To give a fair review of a lotion that claims to decrease pain, it should probably be taken as recommended for one month. I think that’s a decent amount of time to expect something to start making a noticeable difference. If you’d like to find out my impression from one day of application, read on! Continue Reading

[book review] knight of lost words

In my last post, I mentioned that I’d started on Seanan McGuire‘s October Daye series. On Saturday I finished book ten in the series, which is the most recent novel. Book three was both creepy and action-filledĀ and got me hooked by kicking the fantasy up a notch. In the rest of the series, Toby continued to face bigger and badder situations, get the crap kicked out of her, and still come out -mostly- on top. Continue Reading
